Home Newsletter Fall 2009 Volunteer Virtually: Share Taylor’s Tale through Social Networking

Central to the mission of Taylor’s Tale is storytelling, specifically telling the story of 11-year-old Taylor King. Taylor has a lot in common with many pre-teen girls her age. She loves the Jonas Brothers. She dreams of becoming a fashion designer or a pop star. She likes spending time with her friends and family. But in one way, Taylor is different. She has Batten disease, a rare neurodegenerative disease that affects children.

Taylor’s Tale is a Charlotte-based public charity made up of volunteers who raise awareness of Batten disease and generate funds for vital research needed to beat the disease.

Thanks to ever-advancing technology and the increasing popularity of social networking sites, those who want to help advance the Taylor’s Tale cause can now serve as “virtual volunteers” by joining Project E-wareness.

Project E-wareness is an initiative to tap into the viral aspect of social networking sites to share the Taylor’s Tale story, raise awareness of Batten disease and reach out to potential donors.

Whether you tweet, blog, Facebook or simply use email to connect with friends, family and co-workers, any of these communication tools are a great way to share Taylor’s story. Why not write a blog post about Taylor? Or add Taylor’s Tale as one of your causes on Facebook? You could even email the Taylor’s Tale video to your friends and family, or you could add a link to the Taylor’s Tale Web site to your email signature. There are a number of ways that you can help, and they’re all just a click away.
